Would a Volvo XC90 be an excellent used car?

We currently own a 2006 Audi A6, and I have taken a liking for the Volvo XC90.
I love its good looks, spacious interior, and superior safety.
However, its wooden steering and stodgy handling and massive size are a concern for me.

Would it make a reliable used car? Does anyone have anything to say about it?
Thanks.

  1. Volvos are absolutely not reliable. Maintenance is expensive and they are full of cheap made electronics that cause all sorts of problems. You're better off with your Audi.

I will never own another Volvo unless I buy one and get rid of it right before the warranty expires. They are not the car they used to be. They are junk. Check out consumer reports or other car ratings. Also, the resale value is horrible – why? Because the cars are money traps.

  2. Depends on the year and engine. If you live in North America the D5 is not an option. The Earlier ones has some quirks with the AWD system and I would try to avoid them. We actually just did a DIY buying guide for these over on XCforums: http://xcforums.com/topic/25-so-you-want…

Follow that guide and I think you will end up with a reliable car.

  3. Yes this would be a very good buy I would recommend the diesel D5 as this is a solid engine and has been in Volvo's seen 1999 and there are still using it today I have an S60 D5 and the build is very solid.

There not cheap though a 9 year old one will be £5,000 with a 150,000 miles on the clock

I have put a link in so you can read all you need to know about the XC90

    Hope this helps

  4. Do not go on the looks. The looks of a car can be changed easily. For a reliable car go for the test drive so that you can know how the car is performing at present. Thats all.
