Okay so I have a 2003 Audi a6 with the 4.2l v8. I know I'm not suppose to get good gas milage in the first place but I considered that when I bought it but it gets way under. It is supposed to get 15-18 city and I only get about 10. What gives. I drive it so slowly but I get the same results. I also let it warm up in the morning for a couple minutes and don't say that is why because I know it's not. I get better when it warms up

If you drive alot then explains it
The mileage mentioned is a rough estimate. There are several things that can ruin gas mileage.
1) Tires are wrong size or under-inflated. This makes the engine work harder to get speed up and burns more gas.
2) Your cart has a lot of stuff in it. The more weight inside your car, the more it takes to move your car. If you use your car as storage, you should remove anything not used in emergencies.
3) Your carburetor may be dirty. Try using some fuel additives (you can find them at most stores, even the dollar store) to clean it and improve gas mileage.
4) Your driving style can impact gas usage. Try taking your foot off the gas when going downhill or not using cruise control. This little change can help shave a little off your gas usage.
5) Do you drive uphill a lot or end up stopping at stop lights or idling at fast food windows? This can eat gas. Turn off your engine when your car is waiting in line for awhile. Also, try avoiding big hills where you can.
If none of these things help, try taking your car to a mechanic for more help.
it depends on how fast you go and what performance items you got on the car
The mileage is worked out under optimum conditions. A major contributor to bad MPG is air conditioning……SWITCH IT OFF and in my experience with petrol engines you will gain around 5 mpg also close the windows to stop drag. I have a Skoda Superb….(basically an Audi A6 but a Skoda) mine is a diesel engine, even driving at high speeds with rapid accelleration i get 45mpg and taking it steady 60mpg. Maybe next time you change cars and still want luxury and power buy a turbodiesel.
that is normal for that car the 14-16 is an artificial figure to compare cars it has no relation to the real world
You are suffering from unrealistic expectations. Has the car been tuned up recently? Easy things to check – replace the intake air filter, spark plugs, oil and filter change with a high quality synthetic, run injector cleaner through the fuel system (like Chevron Techron), make sure your tires are inflated properly. If your check engine light is on, have that diagnosed by a repair shop which specializes in AUDI/VW. Fuel quality is going to be a major issue. Today's fuels are blended with up to 10% ethanol which actually decreases your fuel economy.
Letting modern cars warm up more than a few seconds is a complete waste of money and just adds to pollution. The fastest way to warm up your car is to drive it moderately until it is up to operating temps.
