EVAN is totally ignorant .
cold air intake and all that crap is useless.
tires will make a big difference in MPG, and how you drive it. Adjust the eng timing will also make a big difference
Try some synthetic oil. Less friction.
Get good tires.
6 litres don't normally make great gas mileage but some things help. You can go with a k&n in your stock airbox. Performance headers and a larger exhaust, like 2 inches, to relieve stress off the motor. A brand new catalytic converter is a plus cuz they clog up and break eventually.
Any car that's older than a 95 should have the suspension completely redone. Struts, springs, and all bushings. Plus an alignment, this will keep the car straight and the tires firmly on the pavement. New tires too.
Take anything out of your car that you don't need. I took my passenger seat out for about a week but it probably didn't make much difference.
Change your oil regularly. Keep your tires aired up between 32 and 35 psi. Lighter rims like performance racing type rims. NOT aluminum drag rims. They damage easily on bumps.
For more serious upgrades you can try a professional port and polish on the head if its not already been done.
If its a standard (and only a standard), you should get a lightweight flywheel. My friend put one in his s2000 and got about 5 mpgs back.
And one rediculously simple thing you and any driver can do is just taking your foot off the gas. Keep it under 3000 rpms and you'll see a massive impact on fuel economy. Especially if you drive anything like I do.
You can also get your ecu chipped. Most of the time you will get better gas mileage and some more power.
The cold air intake is a myth. I was surprised too but if you force more air in the computer will add more gas as well. You do gain about 15 horses but you lose a lot of gas.
And just because there are 'trolls' on yahoo answers doesn't mean I'm wrong.
cold air intake. better combustion with cold air means better use of your gas and better MPG
Just make sure all your filters are clean, your tires are good + properly inflated and drive smoothly.
