Car went in for oil change to a mechanic. Ran smooth for about a week and broke down in the middle of road. Car was towed to another mechanic.
Mechanic number 2 says mechanic number 1 put in too much oil when doing the change and 'blew the engine'. Now the car is pretty much kaput. No waivers were signed. It will cost $2000 for a new engine.
Is the first mechanic liable for the error? He said he will NOT pay for the new engine and that it's not his fault. What can I do to make the idiot mechanic to pay for the damages he caused?
The car is 8 years old, Chrysler Interpid, was in excelllent condition. Did not travel far distances with it; just around town.

Small claims court. You better get your documentation together.
dont think overfull has caued your problem
You would have to get a good lawyer then have Chrysler asses the damage and discern that indeed it did come from an overfill of oil by Mechanic 1 and not an elaborate hoax staged in an attempt to make Mechanic 1 pay for an engine already damaged from use .
If you can prove this then the judge could get Mechanic 1 to pay for damages and fees .
Good luck finding a lawyer that will take that case being that lawsuits are on decline .
You can NOT "blow up an engine" but putting in too much oil.
Mechanic 2 sounds like he is fishing for worms.
What is "blew the engine"? Did something come out the side of it? There should have been oil all over the ground.
How many miles were on it and was the timing belt ever changed?
If mechanic #2 can't answer "What exactly is wrong with the engine?", find mechanic #3.
What can I do to make the idiot mechanic to pay for the damages he caused?
Nothing. In the first place "too much oil" would not cause engine damage. If there was too much oil, you should have caught that when you checked your oi. Did you check it?
Waivers are not signed for oil changes, and it isn't the mechanic's problem. What did you do to it that week is was running, per your statement, smooth?
Engines usually break down from having no oil, not too much. So I ask again, did you check it?
I took my ford focus to get oil changed on 1/28/2012, at a quick type oil change station, drove home about 2 miles. Next morning drove about 17 miles to take Grandma to breakfast. Arrived and got her in the car, started car and heard the most horific sounds coming from the engine. Turned off, tried once more and same horrific sound. I had it towed and the shop called telling me it has 2 1/2 times more oil that it should, also they said the engine was locked up. They did not want to so anything with it and told me to call the Oil change co. I have asked several people and the consenses is that that much extra oil can do major damage. So I am now waiting for the oil change company to send a independent inspection company to examine the car. Please let me know if you have insight to this kind of thing. Thanks
