Synthetic or Normal oil? 2002Nissan Altima 125K miles. Confused!!?

Hello everyone Ive got a 2002 Nissan Altima with 125k miles..the car is manual transmission.

Im going to change the oil tomorrow and made a couple calls to the oil change places..

They have:

Penzoil 10W30 Normal Oil $50.00

Penzoil 5W30 Synthetic Oil $80.00

I'm living in Central America a couple months…no snow just temperatures approx. 15 degrees Celsius…and the average temperature during most of the year is 25 degrees celsius..

What type of oil should I use with all this miles on my car?

What is the interval change for synthetic? is it really better?

  1. yes Synthetic is better. especialy for a car with that many miles. its helps keeps everything lubed up and clean. it shouldnt cost that much for it but idk where u went to get your oil but oh well. i would recoment Synthetic but its up to you and how much you wish to spend.

  2. Synthetic is better for certain driving conditions. A couple things make synthetic different from conventional oil is A. it lasts longer and B. it withstands more heat. If you change your oil every 3,000 miles as your manual says..then you don't need it. If your engine doesn't run super hot, then you don't need it. I've always used synthetic oil, but I've came to realize that I don't need it so ever since I've been using Castrol GTX instead of spending extra money on synthetic oil I don't need.

  3. Read your owner's manual and use the oil recommended for the conditions you're experiencing.

The owner's manual will provide you with the best and most consistent information possible for your engine and it's usage requirements.

Always refer to your owner's manual for all maintenance intervals and fluids as well as recommended spark plugs, filters, etc.

It's always safe to ignore any advice that may conflict with the owner's manual recommendations.
