Hello I was driving my car and thought I smelled coolant looked down and the car was on H.. I pulled over to let it cool down. When I opened the trunk the car wasn't hot, no smoke, and full of coolant. I checked nothing leaking. I started driving again and the cars gauge went up and down. (mostly on H) this time I didn't really smell coolant. I don't think I have a leak and I would say its the gauge but I def smelled coolant the first time. Any suggestions? Its a 2005 Honda Civic special edition EX.

did u recently have any kind of service done to your cooling system? i wud try a new thermostat, check freeze plugs, radiator for cracks, you may have air in the line which causes steam and makes it think its runnin hot.if one of the hoses is always cooler than the other its not runnin hot.try turnin da heater on next time it does dis an c if it goes down or if the heater quits workin
you mean the hood, not the trunk don,t you? look on the floor board on the passenger side for any leaks. it also could be the temperature sending unit acting up too.
It's also possible that your thermostat got stuck temporarily. I would change that out just to be sure.
Not the gage but the heat sensor on the cylinder head has probably a loose wire to it or the sensor itself is hooped
