Ok. I have a 98 toyota camry 4 cylinder and the service engine light is on. When i got it checked it says that the cam position sensor is bad. well i bought and replaced the cam position sensor but the light still turned on. The car runs fine but does'nt get good gas milage thats why i wanted to fix it. can there be anything else that can cause the cam position sensor light to turn on. Would appreciate the help. THANK YOU.

  1. If you already make the scan to the car and the scanner give you a code with the cam sensor as fault have in mind there is a cables connecting the sensor to the computer, first of all check the cables then if you have the scanner clear the code most of the codes are loaded on the computer memory and no clear just by disconnect the battery
And that's right never connect the positive with the negative make that could cause to burn the computer or any other electronic device.

  2. OMFG do NOT listen to Vinnie! Do NOT put Neg cable on the Positive! What a moron!

I was gonna tell you to disconnect the battery to let it reset…but I see you already did that. Go to autozone and see what their scanner comes up with. There might have been other problems other than cam position sensor.

  3. hey ERIC ill give it too you you did it on youre own thats killer but the suc part is as alot of us here dont have access too the dealership tools too reset these things that make a total victory for the WRENCH !!!!! why dont you go over to the local shop and see w/ it takes to rset what a 6 pack or lunch ?

  4. VINNIE IS WRONG!!!!!!!!! do not touch the negative to the positive on your battery you will short it out and it could blow up in your face. that guy is gonna get someone killed.

  5. When you fix a problem such as that the computer sets a code in the system and you will need a scan tool to remove the code that will connect to OBD II. You would clear the code and your light should go off.

  6. If you are sure that the problem is solved try to disconnect the Neg side of the Batt and touch it to the B+ side. That will in fact clean the fault, remember you applying ground to the B+ with the Batt disconnected not touching B+ and Batt ground together. Also that will pretty much re-set all the modules in the car. If you still have a light on then you may have other problems.

  7. Ola! Motor Mash,
Thanks for the above, I have a 2003 mitsubishi eclipse. Its over 150,000 miles on it. I just forked out 515.00 dollars for new brake pads and roaters. And 50.00 dollars for a oil change and flush. I don’t get paid for another two weeks and the engine light came on 4 days ago. On monday i took it to an Auto Zone and they plugged in something to the inside of my car. Which narrowed it down to 4 things.
    1. Defective, loose or missing fuel cap
    2. EVAP canister broke, hose cracked or not connected
    3. Purge or vent solenoid defective
    4. Vacuum leak at engine
My fuel cap is not loose or missing and thats all i know. But i need to know how much time do i have to get this fixed as i don’t get paid for another two weeks.
    Keep up the good work
