I have a 1997 jeep grand cherokee its been sitting for about 5 months because of a wheel barring didn't have?


Money to fix it battery went dead I put a new one in but now when I crank it it starts but when I let off gas it dies it ran fine before. what could be causing it?

  1. It sounds like an idle issue. You would need to adjust the idle position to give it a little more gas when your foot is off of the gas pedal.

  2. The computer needs to relearn all the parameters etc form the sensors, and will run like crap or barely at all until thn.

    Take it for a good drive 10 miles or so and it should fix itself. The first few miles, its going to want to stall whenever you leave off the gas. If you have to come to a stop sign, put it in neutral and keep giving it gas/ or while in drive hit the gas slightly while also using the brakes. I find putting it in neutral to be easier.

  3. Something else to consider: Unless you stabilized it, the gas has probably gone bad in it. If there isn't much in the tank, fill it with fresh gas to dilute the skunky. If the tank is almost full, and the gas has indeed turned, you'll have to find a way to get most of the bad out.

    You should also give the engine compartment a thorough check for evidence of critters chewing on wires or vaccum lines (or living in the air cleaner).
